Race Report: Clyde 3s

Clyde Head of the River Races took place on Saturday 4th November 2023. Clydesdale ARC had competitors from all squads and representation in all three divisions.

Division 1, saw eights and singles travelling down the 3km course from just upstream of the Shawfield Footbridge to the monument on Glasgow Green. CARC had several members competing in various single scull categories:

  • The Open Singles was won by CARCs Ben Parsonage.
  • Mas A-E Open Singles was won by Johnson.
  • The Women’s Single was won by Setford.
  • The Women’s Novice Single was won by Innes.
  • The Women’s Master Single was won by O’Hare.
  • It was a competitive field in the Masters F-I Open Single and it saw a tight result between Macfarlane (3rd) from Blair (4th) with only a second separating them.
  • Rounding out a great showing in division one was the J16 Women’s Single Sculls where Arkhipov secured a second place finish in a competitive field of six.

Division 2 saw doubles and coxed fours competing, with Clydesdale being represented across both categories.

  • Clydesdale won the Open R2 Double (Stewart).
  • Clydesdale had a 1 – 2 finish in the Women’s R2 double (1 – Setford, 2 – O’Hare).
  • The Women’s R1 Coxed Four came second (Lonergan).
  • The Masters Open Double (Johnston) came second to a speedy CSRC crew (Holmes).
  • The juniors entered the Women’s Novice Double coming second (Arkipov).
  • Finally, there was a first place finish in the Open Nov 2x (Blair) for Clydesdale.

The last division of the day – Division 3 – saw coxed (novice only) and coxless quads, pairs, and single (the rematch) take place.

  • Clydesdale had two coxless quads entered into the Women’s R2 4x-, Vohnikova’s crew took first place with Geddes’ crew in second place.
  • The last Clydesdale boat to set off for the day was the Women’s Novice Coxed Quad and finished in second place.
