Clyde 3s 2025 Race Report

On Saturday 1st November several Clydesdale ARC crews took part in Clyde 3s Head race. Racing conditions were tough with a strong headwind felt in several places along the 3km race course. Unfortunately, due to the worsening weather conditions division three was cancelled and so here is a summary of division one and two!

Medals:

  • J18 1x Thomas L.
  • W R2 1x Hannah Anderson
  • O Mas 1x Danny Blair
  • W Nov 2x Christina Smith and Marie Hoffman (SUBC)

Notable Results:

  • O 1x Struan Stuart 1st place
  • R1 2x Robyn Patrick and Veronika Vohnikova 2nd place
  • J18 2x Finlay W. and Thomas L. 1st place

Division 1 saw singles and eights take to the river Clyde. The Clydesdale junior girls (Darcey Anna Olivia Fern Jaime Tara Grace Mia and cox Amy) put in a strong performance in the W R2 8+ competing against senior university crews and put in a solid performance coming in second place behind Dundee University but beating the Edinburgh University’s club rowing crew.

The men and women’s singles saw clydesdale crews battling it out between each other. Struan putting in a solid performance to take the win over Fred. For the women’s singles CARC’s Robyn and Veronika were joined by GRC’s Caitlin who put in a great performance to take the win, with Veronika second and Robyn in third. In the W R2 1x Hannah came in first place beating competition from SUBC, and Dundee University.

In the O Mas 1x Danny Blair once again showed his skill and took home a medal against several crews. In the W Mas 1x Becky and Margaret were up against several experienced scullers and came back with a 3rd and 4th place.

In the junior singles three Clydesdale juniors were competing for the medal in the J18 1x, Thomas took the win in a time of 8:54 a time which would have won the O 1x. In second place was Finlay and fourth place was Hamish.

In division 2 coxed fours and doubles took to the water. Up first were the O Mas 4+, sadly they had no competition for this event and competed for time only completing the course in 9:59 which on time (with no handicap!) put them in front of the Edinburgh University club rowing R2 4+.

Clydesdale had several doubles out in this division. Robyn and Veronika joined forces from their single and went up against the men in the R1 2x coming away with a second place, 1 second behind 1st place!

In the W Nov 2x we had an CARC and SUBC composite of Christina and Marie (SUBC), this crew put in a great performance and won this category in a time of 9:58. In this category we also had Megan and Maya race the double together for the first time, and it was Maya’s first race on the Clyde having recently moved to Glasgow from the US; they came in fifth place.

Another crew which decided to pair up were Thomas and Finlay in the J18 2x, they came away with first place ahead of a Glasgow Academy crew. The more recent members of the junior squad who are building up their racing experience were the boys in the J15 double, George and Grisha, they came away with 3rd place. Then for the W J16 2x Tara and Ava took to the double again and came away with 4th place. Both these crews are gaining valuable racing and rowing experience and we’re so excited to see how these athletes get on over this next year!
