JUNIOR ROWING
Our aim is to help our junior athletes to achieve their potential in rowing. This can be through helping them to learn a new skill, build their confidence, or support them to compete locally, nationally, or internationally.

Learn to Row &
New Members

We encourage prospective juniors to come along to our weekend sessions and get stuck in with the squad. We’ve seen that juniors learn to row faster when they learn with other people rather than on their own. We also find it best for juniors to meet everyone and start forming friendships from day one as friends made through the sport are often friends for life.
If you are a junior (their parent/guardian) or you know a junior who would be keen to try out the sport please send Skye an email at juniorcoach@clydesdalearc.org.uk to arrange attending a weekend session.
Racing

Everyone in the squad regardless of age and ability is welcome to attend any Scottish based event. In Scotland we attend races which are local both on the Clyde and at Strathclyde Park as well as attending further away races in Inverness.
Racing is great to get involved in as it’s a lot of fun, busy and full of club spirit!
Our athletes who commit to training multiple times a week are also welcome to attend the British Championships and National Schools Regatta.
As our squad continues to grow we seek to enter larger races in England such as the SHORR and Scullery.
Junior Squad Achievements

The squad has been incredibly successful over the last few years. Over the past two seasons the squad has consistently achieved high level results with our junior girls winning JIRR and British Champs for two years in a row.
We’ve also had consistent medals at the Scottish Championships and had athletes selected to represent Scotland at the Home International Regatta and Beach Sprints. This past season we also have an athlete attend GB U19 Early Identifications in Boston.
Coaching
Clydesdale ARC’s junior coaching team is made up of three committed young coaches Skye, Andrew and Jake. This is Skye and Andrews third season coaching and squad and Jakes second season coaching the squad.
All our junior coaches obtain British Rowing Coaching credentials and PVG checks.
The junior squad benefits from a paid coaching team.
Skye
Skye learnt to row in 2016 at Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association before moving to Glasgow and continuing to row with Glasgow University Boat Club and Clydesdale ARC. As a junior Skye was a coxswain for the Scottish junior men in 2019 and also had success coxing across the country including winning the SHORR and medaling at the National Schools and British Champs.
Andrew
Andrew learnt to row as a beginner with Strathclyde University Boat Club in 2021 before going onto row with Glasgow University Boat Club and then returning to row with Strathclyde University for this upcoming season. Andrew has raced at many events throughout the country including BUCS head and regatta, HORR, and Marlow Regatta.
Jake
Jake learnt to row at Clydesdale ARC in 2019. In 2024 Jake moved onto university but has carried on with the squad as a coach. During his time as a junior Jake competed at the British Champs, National Schools, and raced at the HORR as part of the Scottish Argonauts squad.
