National championship medalist – 1980, 1988, 1989 Coaching: Various crews/individuals to National Championship medals – 1984, 1998, 2003 Undertook “coach mentoring” course run by John McArthur at Strathclyde Park 2006 Attended numerous Sport Scotland-led short courses & seminars 1996 - 2006 Callum MacDonald (Senior Men) Callum has the ARA Bronze award and has completed most of the requirements for the Silver Award. Callum Rowed at Loch Lomond during the late 70's and much of the 80's and at Clydesdale during much of the 90's. He has a degree in Sports Coaching and Development and worked at the National Rowing Academy as a Development Officer for the SARA in 2002-03, where he was heavily involved in Coach Education delivery. During 2003-04 he was head coach at Newcastle University, coaching crews to medals at BUSA, a victory for his top four at Metropolitan Regatta and, and taking his top athlete to final GB trials at Hazelwinkel [from 50th at first trial], where he won the 'C' final [13th] in heavyweight sculls leading to U-23 GB selection. Amanda Cobb (Senior Women) Rowing: Rowed for Emmanuel College Boat Club and Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club (CUWBC). Cambridge College Lents Head Crew with EBC; Boat Race winner (lightweights), IV’s and 8’s Head pennants, Nat Champs 4th place finalist (W8+) with CUWBC. Coaching: Coaching and squad co-ordination as Captain of Emmanuel Boat Club, Cambridge University. Currently completing ARA Level II award. Coaching Clydesdale senior women’s squad since August 2008 Other: YMCA qualified Personal Trainer including Nutrition, Gym Training, Circuit Training and Fitness Assessment. Mike Foster (Junior Women Level 2) Coaching Awards: SARA basic rowing instructors award. (Early 1972); ARA Silver (1976); ARA Gold(1985); Accredited NVQ and ARA assessor for national coaching awards(1985) Accredited Assessor for New British Coaching award system (2006); Involved in Scottish Coach Education Rowing: 1968 - 1976 (when stopped for health reasons). Coaching: since 1969, with three years out between 1977 and 1980.Coached mainly Juniors for 8 years, thereafter Seniors and Students, to National and International level, being HCM for Scotland and Match Des Seniors (under 23) for GB. Chris Phillips (Junior Men Level 2) Maureen Malone (Juniors Level 1) Maureen has a rowing career spanning more than 25 years. Scottish Championship winner in various events. Henley semi finalist, National Championship fourth place finalist, four times. Represented Scotland at Home Countries International Regattas. Coaching : Qualified Rowing Instructor (RIC). Currently completing Level 2 SVQ. Coached scullers and crews to Scottish Championship wins. Administration : Regatta organising committee member for World Rowing events. Olivier Laplanche (Juniors Level 1) Started rowing in 1992 Was a French Uni Champion in 8+ in 2002 (medallist in 2000 and 2007), Silver medal / 2006 French Elit Championship LW4- He admits he is a complete rowing addict, having rowed at least once (for leisure or racing - flat water or coastal rowing) in Germany, Swizterland, the USA (Boston, Princeton, San Francisco), England and of course Scotland and France ! Junior's coach in Nantes 2000-2008 In 2008 he joined Glasgow Schools as a coach funded by The Henley Stewards Charitable Trust. Tom McGuinness ( Senior Novices) Tom started his rowing in 2002 and started coaching in 2006. In that year, his main focus was to re-start junior rowing within Clydesdale and Glasgow Schools and get juniors who had completed the dry-start rowing programme in Glasgow Schools onto the water. This has now taken off and is currently been run by Maureen Malone and Olivier Laplanche. Tom currently looks after the senior Novice Squad. He is due to complete his Level 2 SVQ in March 2009. Gordon Simpson John Eadie Coaching Awards: SARA Bronze (early 70's); ARA Silver (Jan 1976) Ran 1 or 2 RICs late 70's/early 80's Coaching: various crews 70's, early 80's. Duncan Paterson Instructor for SARA Bronze Level Award. During early 80's help set up SARA Rowing Instructors Certificate, Basic Instructors Certificate and the SARA Sculling Proficiency Award Scheme. Accredited to award Basic Instructor Certificates. Coaching Awards: SARA Bronze (1972), ARA Silver (1975:Nottingham), Gold (1979:London), NVQ Assessor Award (1996). International Rowing: Raced for Scotland on numerous occasions. Early 80's Team Manager Home Countries Match, Ghent and Amsterdam. (Retired 1987) 1984 Selector for Commonwealth Games Team. 1985 Appointed Team Manager 1986 Games Team Manager. Duncan has been rowing for the past XX years, competing both nationally and internationally. He has held the position of President and Captain on the club committee and currently hold the position of Hon President. John Bowie Coaching Awards: SARA basic rowing instructors award (Early 1970’s). Rowing: Represented Scotland on many occasions, member of first home grown Scottish crew to win gold medal at British Champs, member of Commonwealth eight, which still holds Scottish record(5.42) Coaching: Coached crews and scullers to Gold, Silver and Bronze at British Champs, coached four to semi-final of Wyfolds, Athletes include Joe Kelly, Mark Hely, Gillian Lindsay, Kevin Plank, Ross Malone, and Alison Barnes. Richard Watters Rowing: Involvement in rowing spanning a 36 year period including medal success at a number of National Championships of Great Britain. Representing Scotland on a number of occasions. One of a select group of athletes to have represented Scotland at a FISA sanctioned championships (Match des Seniors 1978) Coaching: Coach to women’s double scull for the 1986 Commonwealth Games; Coached ex Australian internationalist oarswoman (and originally non-sculler) to medal success in women’s lightweight single scull at 2004 National Championships of Great Britain; Employed as a development coach by the SARA for two years to March 2006. Engaged in schools development in Hamilton and Motherwell. Extensive coaching involvement in the SARA’s pilot Talent Identification program. Richard Walsh Coaching Awards: SARA basic rowing instructors award Coaching: Various crews to British championships (and beyond). Responsible for running Women’s squad and also progressing junior athletes. Appointed Scottish Team Manager to the Women’s Heavyweight Squad for 1994 Commonwealth Games and responsible for training and selection. Unfortunately, due to serious illness, did not see the job through to completion, but carried out the role for around 6 months. Also a registered Weight lifting Coach and teacher for BAWLA
