Corporate Regatta

CLYDESDALE CORPORATE REGATTA

Do you fancy undertaking a little challenge this year? Perhaps you always fancied some rowing but never knew how? Well here is your chance to enter into a sporting challenge with a few of your colleagues and learn to row at the same time.

What is involved?

After getting together a crew of four people you will be appointed a coach and a coxswain for the training period and the regatta day.  Training begins with an introductory session at the National Rowing Academy, a state of the art indoor facility located at Strathclyde Country Park.  All crews will then receive six 1.5hr lessons on the River Clyde, once a week in the evenings after work.  These sessions will teach you enough of the basic rowing technique to enable you to compete against the other corporate crews on regatta day.

The course is 500m long, starting at the home of the Glasgow Humane Society on Glasgow Green and finishing opposite the clubhouse, just above the weir. Each crew will have three races in the ‘round robin’ stage and will accumulate points for wins or dead heats. After this, the winning crews from each group progress to the knock-out stages.

For each female member of the crew, the crew will be given a ½ boat length start. For each member of the crew who took part in the Corporate Regatta in the preceding year only, the crew will be given a ½ boat length handicap. There will also be a ½ boat length handicap for crew members who have gained further rowing experience over and above that provided within the Corporate Regatta. The maximum advantage given to any crew shall be 2 boat lengths.

In addition to the main racing event, regatta day will also see our “Ergo Challenge” – a relay event to see which crew (and coach) can set the fastest time over 2500m on one of our Concept II rowing machines.

The winning crew will receive the Clydesdale Corporate Cup which will be held by the winning company until the following year. This can be displayed in your company’s office to encourage crews in following years to take part.  In addition, each crew member will receive a commemorative etched glass.

There will also be prizes for the 2nd placed crew and the crew that wins the Ergo Challenge.

BBQ & Spectators

There will be a tea bar and a barbecue available throughout the day for both competitors and supporters.
